Went to the doc yesterday and learned that this little guy weighs 9lb 8.5oz, which puts him at the 50th percentile in weight for his age, and he is now 22.5 inches long, which is 90th percentile for height. Yikes!
Here he is today after getting his social security number. You can almost see in his eyes how he doesn't expect he will ever reap the benefits of social security. Wise kid.
Emerson and I caught up with Jamaica and Nelson this afternoon while out for a walk. What started as a quick hello through the window became a lengthy chat through the window. It was nice to catch up.
Today Emerson is 28 days old, which means he graduates from being a newborn to being an infant. So now we have an infant. He was pretty excited about it.
To celebrate, we took a walk at Crissy Field and enjoyed a gorgeous sunny day. Emerson enjoyed his first open-air diaper change on a stretch of grass in the shade.
Sarah brought Scout over to visit yesterday. Scout slept most of the time she was here like a good baby, so she may not be aware that she has made a new friend. Emerson, who in contrast was up and in need of entertainment the whole time, got an up close intro courtesy of Pa before she left.
And this is just a bonus picture of Emerson hanging out in his diaper because his parents still often don't put clothes on him.
On Saturday night we took Emerson to Berkeley to have dinner with TBA (John and Mykael). He seemed to enjoy the trip and may or may not have any idea that he crossed a body of water.
It took us a week to get him into clothes. It took just a little over two weeks before we gave him a bath. After the initial shock of being (back) in water, he seemed to think it was OK. Being cozy in the towel was also a highlight.
John and Mykael (who have decided to let Emerson decide what they will be called, hence the TBA) are here to spend some time with the little dude. A good time is being had by all.
Here are some photos taken on April 4 by friends Polina and Vitaly who came over and made blinis for us to eat for breakfast. Vitaly brought his very fancy camera and caught some great shots! Thanks friends!
We started the day today by thanking our neighbors in advance for being patient and understanding about the new baby.
Then the mailman came, bringing a wonderful surprise: a hand-knitted blanket from Emerson's great aunt Penney. Eric and Emerson immediately tried it out with great results.
Then it was time for Emerson to wear clothes for the second time in his life so we could go for a walk.
Eric road-tested the ergo baby carrier with the little dude safely packed away inside.
We walked up to the library at the top of the hill and got a bunch of DVDs to watch while we recovered from the walk back at home.
Today Emerson left our apartment for the first time in his life. He also wore clothing for the first time in his life. It was a big day. We went in the car to see the pediatrician.
