Pool: Open!

We kicked off the swimming season yesterday when Eric got home from work. Pool temp is around 80 degrees. Ethan has not yet been in.

Old stomping ground

Ellie, the brave and adventurous soul that she is, took Emerson and Ethan to SF for a week-long visit. As she might be too busy enjoying friends and keeping up with the boys to update the blog, I wanted to post this picture that Ellie sent me of Emerson enjoying his favorite food. I think this is the first time he's handled an entire burrito by himself.

Ethan's First Hockey Game

Given Emerson's almost two-year head start on him, I don't know how often Ethan will get to do things before he does. In this case, due to dubious parenting judgment on my part, we brought two-month-old Ethan to a Lightning game with my dad and Eric. I did have enough sense to bring ear protection; however I did not have the sense to stretch them out a bit ahead of time.
It was fun once they eased up a bit.

The Gym

Rain on Friday turned our zoo visit into a class at MyGym. My dad came along and documented the fun, starting with Circle Time and then moving on to other physical adventures.

Big day at the Florida state fair

Eric was out of town for the weekend but Emerson, Ethan and I did not hold back just because we were short-handed and first thing Saturday morning we headed over to the Florida State Fair to see some carnies and eat ridiculous deep-fried food.

We started off at the petting zoo where Emerson fed sheep, goats, a yak and a water buffalo, brushed a cow and we got to see newborn piglets.

From there we went to the bunny and bird building where Emerson was happy to pet a rabbit (that's the nondescript black blob) and was delighted by the giant geese until they started honking at him at which point he covered his ears and demanded we leave.

Then it was time for the rides! We got our sheet of 20 tickets and proceeded to put them to good use. Emerson is exactly 36 inches tall, the minimum height to be able to ride the kiddie rides. Given that he is unusually tall for his age, I think this probably means he is not really old enough to be riding them but after he strapped his own seatbelt on one of the rides, shocking the ride attendant, I stopped worrying about that.

Around noon Dianna and Lucy came to play and enjoyed the rides with Emerson (I had Ethan and he was not allowed on any rides, though given how much attention some of the attendants were paying I could probably have taken him on plenty of them).

After the Dumbo ride (which, for royalty purposes was called the "Jumbo" ride) we adjoured back to Bill and Mary Lou's place in Orlando for a delicious dinner and a fun evening. What a great day!

Visit to Orlando

We went to Orlando today to play with Dianna and Lucy at the Science Center, and Brett was able to join us for lunch. It was a great day!

Green Eggs and Ham

The other night, Eric read Emerson "Green Eggs and Ham" as a bedtime story. Emerson wanted to read it again and again so Eric finally asked Emerson if he wanted to read it to his stuffed alligator. Emerson thought this was a good idea. Through the open door, Eric could hear Emerson reading.

(opens the book to the first page)

"Like it! Eat them!"

"Do not!"

"Like it! Eat them! Fox!"

"Like it! Eat them! Train!"

(and so on, until the last page)

"Like it! Ate 'em up!"
