First theatre experience

I took Emerson to see a production of Winnie the Pooh at the local performing arts center. I was surprised to discover that it was a production put on by 35 second, third and fourth graders but Emerson, with no expectations whatsoever, thoroughly enjoyed the performance and has been vividly recounting the plot to anyone who shows an interest.

Birthday at Busch Gardens

On Emerson's actual birthday we went to Busch Gardens where it turned out Elmo and friends were also celebrating the 5th birthday of the Sesame Street exhibit. We enjoyed hugs from Elmo and free cake! Happy Birthday Emerson!

Myakka River 'camping'

We spent a day at Myakka River where we did a hike that includes a 'canopy walk' - a hanging bridge between two observation towers - as well as a canoe through alligator-infested waters. While we tried to keep our distance, on several occasions alligators startled as we passed and slid into the water. I was convinced they would soon turn up under our boat ready to attack but they left us alone. I still made the kids keep their hands in the canoe, just in case.
We had reserved a campsite that, it turned out, what completely paved even though it was rated as a tent or RV site. We had no interest in sleeping on asphalt, so we stayed long enough to have dinner and a campfire and then came home and slept in our own beds.

Hockey Day

We went to watch the University of Tampa hockey team play the USF "Ice Bulls" and the kids got to see their first ice hockey game. The highlight for them was meeting Thunderbug, the Lightning mascot who was there (the game was held at Amalie Arena where the Lightning play). The boys were also featured on the scoreboard!
