We walked to our favorite local pizza restaurant on Saturday in the rain, so Eric got Emerson appropriately situated. One pizza patron commented on seeing them: "Why that's the cutest goiter I've ever seen!"
Standing up on the ottoman (and everything else) is pretty old hat now, so Emerson mostly focuses on banging his hands and trying to balance. It often works, except when the ceiling fan catches his eye at the same time, and then it doesn't.
That's Jamaica on the right - responsible for the cutest little Brown t-shirt ever. Thanks Jamaica! Next time we will do a better job of actually getting you in the picture.
Since he was born, my mother has been telling me: "One day you'll walk into his room and he'll be standing up in his crib."
Yep.
Huge thank you to my aunt Barbara and Jenny, Fred, Sarah-Louise, Will and Hunter who gave us this crib. Emerson loves it and sleeps very well in it. What a gift!
Emerson has made some leaps and bounds this week in the world of, well, leaps and bounds.
For starters, he is now sitting up with no hands. This is important because it enables him to put things in his mouth while sitting.
For a few weeks now he has been "crawling" and now I feel we can confidently take the quotation marks away (though this video is from right before we were ready to take away the quotations marks). Here Emerson hustles across the kitchen floor in order to make out with a paper grocery bag he apparently feels strongly about.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Emerson has gone straight to pulling himself up to standing and climbing up everything in sight. I haven't managed to capture this on film yet because he kind of needs a spotter while working on his new tricks.
Emerson's got quite a few new tricks these days. He's getting up on his hands and knees and rocking - his best chance at forward locomotion so far. Crawling feels terrifyingly imminent (let the child-proofing begin!).
Getting his toes into his mouth also seems to be a favorite of his not to mention a crowd-pleaser. This results is a lot of soggy socks, on his feet and otherwise.
We tried out the new high chair (thank you Joy and Dan!) in anticipation of getting the all clear to try out some solid food. Emerson is clearly eager to be eating something other than breastmilk. (Yes, that's a sock.)
Here's Emerson enjoying a weekend getaway to hang out with friends in a big house on the Russian River.
My return to work is prompting this blog to shift to more of a weekly update format as opposed to a daily update format. There may still be some midweek gems to share, and I promise we'll update promptly with any major new developments.
"I rise early almost every morning and sit in my chamber, without any clothes whatever, half an hour or an hour, according to the season, either reading or writing."
We thought Emerson might enjoy an occasional air bath as well.
